MSP Adjustment Requests Available in NMP - Effective June 19, 2026

Part B users now have the capability to submit Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) adjustment requests through the Noridian Medicare Portal (NMP) for MSP claims. Save time with this electronic submission of the MSP correspondence and no mailing or faxing required.

Use the new MSP inquiry form submission feature for requests such as:

Not related to no-fault, workers’ comp, liability, and Medicare Set-Asides
Medicare paid primary or secondary in error
Incorrect MSP type (2-digit) submitted on previously processed claim

Do not use for non-MSP redeterminations, new CMS-1500 claim submissions, refunds, Veteran’s Administration (VA), TRICARE PACMED, or U.S. Family Health Plan (USFHP) cases.

A confirmation number is provided upon submission and supports improved processing efficiency and reduced administrative burden. Similar to the appeals process, supporting documentation must be uploaded and Noridian has up to 45 calendar days to respond.

Enhanced Monitoring Controls Notification:

CMS identified a concerning trend of malicious actors stealing MBIs and using them to commit Medicare fraud. Some are misusing Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) MBI lookup tools. We’re implementing enhanced monitoring controls to prevent this abuse.

What You Need to Know

Only use the MAC MBI lookup tool for people you intend to provide a service or product to that you’ll bill to Medicare. Our enhanced monitoring compares the MBIs you look up against actual claims submitted with NPIs. If we notice an unusually high rate of MBI lookups without associated claims, your access to the lookup tool may be removed.

Make sure your MAC portal users are associated with NPIs in your organization on whose behalf they may perform MBI lookups. This helps us verify legitimate use and protects your access to the lookup tool.
